The Smarter Web Company (SWC), a London-listed technology group and the UK’s largest publicly traded corporate Bitcoin holder, has announced Coinbase Institutional as its latest custody partner. The move highlights the firm’s strategy to strengthen its Bitcoin treasury management while enhancing investor confidence.
Coinbase Institutional joins multi-custodian framework
Coinbase Institutional, via its Coinbase Prime platform, will safeguard a portion of SWC’s Bitcoin reserves alongside the company’s existing custodians. The collaboration fits into SWC’s multi-custodian approach, designed to improve risk management, operational efficiency, and transparency for shareholders.
CEO Andrew Webley emphasized the significance of the partnership:
“Coinbase is widely recognized as a global leader in institutional-grade custody and execution services. Their addition complements our vision of scaling responsibly while securing shareholder value.”
A growing Bitcoin treasury
As of September 16, 2025, SWC holds 2,470 BTC—valued at roughly $2.836 billion. The firm has been steadily adding to its Bitcoin position, with its most recent purchase of 30 BTC on September 10.
This accumulation forms part of SWC’s broader “10 Year Plan,” which aims to position Bitcoin as the cornerstone of its corporate strategy. Since 2023, the company has also accepted Bitcoin as payment for its services, integrating digital assets into both operations and reserves.
Earlier in July, SWC raised £17.5 million to accelerate Bitcoin adoption, signaling more acquisitions may follow.
Strengthening its global position
The addition of Coinbase Institutional is expected to further solidify SWC’s reputation in the UK market and improve its standing in the global corporate Bitcoin rankings, where it currently sits in 26th place.
Market outlook
While Bitcoin has traded sideways in recent weeks, hovering near $116,000, optimism remains strong among institutional players. Analysts suggest a potential breakout above $117,000 could set the stage for a push toward $120,000, which would further boost the value of SWC’s holdings.
With Coinbase Institutional now on board, The Smarter Web Company is reinforcing its long-term Bitcoin strategy—positioning itself not only as a UK leader but also as an emerging global force in corporate crypto adoption.
